| R30 has a Cardiac Save! |
Mon. Apr 6th 2009
On 4/6/09, R30 was dispatched to a "chest pain". Upon arrival found a gentleman experiencing severe, sudden onset chest pain. After reviewing his 12 Lead EKG, a cardiac alert was declared and the patient was transported “hot” to Munroe Regional Medical Center. En route the patient’s symptoms were treated and his pain decreased. However, to much surprise of the crew, upon pulling into the Hospital overhang the patient went into Ventricular Fibrillation. (“V-Fib” is a life-threatening, ineffective heart rhythm requiring immediate advanced medical attention.) A pericardial thump was performed followed by 3 “shocks” all while rolling the patient into the E.R. The patient regained a normal heart rhythm after a few minutes of anxiety and was then sent to the cardiac floor for procedures. The patient was even able to sign his transport paperwork before R30 left the ER!
GREAT JOB R30 & MRMC ER STAFF!!!
